Mr. Monday Morning: Week 12
Vince Bavaro
11/30/09

Boss of the Week: Brett Favre- 392 Yds, 3 TD

Unbelievable.  The 40-year old hulk and the Vikings are on fire.  Favre now has a 24:3 touchdown to interception ratio this season, including 12 TDs in the last four games.  He looks as good and strong as ever and the Vikes weaponry is ridiculous, which is nothing new.  Next up:  Arizona , who gave up 387 passing yards to Vince Young this week for goodness sake!

Weakest of the Week: Vincent Jackson- 2 Rec, 27 Yds

I expect more from a top-5 receiver in a nice matchup with Kansas City .  Instead, Antonio Gates produced like San Diego ’s No. 1 WR like the old days, catching seven passes for 118 yards and two touchdowns,

Things I Loved in Week 12

*Justin Forsett.  The Cal-Berkeley product has gone over 100 yards in two out of the last three games since Julius Jones has been out with a bruised lung.  Forsett has four touchdowns in that three-game span, including two Sunday against St. Louis.  He finished with 130 yards on 22 attempts on the day.  We pegged him as a deep sleeper in the summer and he's taking full advantage of his opportunity. It looks like he’ll continue to be a fantasy factor down the stretch.

*Miles Austin shredded the Raiders for 145 yards on seven catches, including a touchdown.  He’s top-5 in the NFL in touchdowns with eight, and that’s after basically doing nothing for the first four games of the season.  He leads the league in yards per catch at a healthy 19.6 (among players with at least 20 catches).

*Steven Jackson and Donnie Avery both managed to score touchdowns, despite the Rams getting worked by Seattle and Kyle Boller at QB in place of the injured Marc Bulger.  S. Jax has now scored in four straight games and The Don has three TDs in the last three games.  That a baby!

*Vernon Davis scored his league-leading ninth touchdown.  We told you he was a sleeper this summer, pointing out how ridiculously late he could be had in fantasy drafts.  Davis is a love/hate player for me personally because I selected him as a backup TE with a last-round pick but I dropped him before Week 1 to pickup Mike Bell as insurance for Pierre Thomas.  Ouch.

*Vince Young, Chris Johnson, and the Tennessee Titans have mad heart.  They’re the first ream in league history to win five straight games after starting the season 0-6.  Young finished with a career-high 387 yards and led the team on a beautiful 99-yard game winning touchdown drive in the two-minute drill.  Silky Johnson finished with 154 rush yards, 32 receiving yards, and an 85-yard touchdown.

Per NBC Sports, Johnson now has three touchdown runs of at least 85 yards this season.  No other player in NFL history has had three 85-plus yard TD runs in their entire career!  Silky J is on pace for 2000 rushing yards, 2450 total yards, and 15 touchdowns.  He is not the same, he is a martian.

Things I Hated

*Michael Bush has received a combined seven carries the past two games (3 on Thanksgiving) after ripping off 119 yards on 14 carries two Sundays ago.  His fumble against Cincinnati last week put him firmly behind Justin Fargas and Darren McFadden, even though Bush averages 4.6 yards per carry versus their 3.9 and 3.3 respectively. Tom Cable is a bozo.

*Andre Johnson dropped a touchdown pass that he would haul in the majority of the time.  I witnessed the drop live.  Hatred.

*David Garrard passed for over 300 yards and Maurice Jones-Drew gained over 100 total yards, but the Jaguars only managed to score 3 points against the 49ers.

*We’ve hated the idea of Antonio Bryant in fantasy since the summer time.  He was hands off on draft day.  Just thought I’d mention him here, since the ghostly receiver actually scored a touchdown.  It was his third of the season.  He has 22 receptions for 360 yards and three touchdowns in eight games this season.  Yuck.

*Second-round fantasy picks, Marion Barber and Brandon Jacobs continue to be dulks in the touchdown department after being endzone monsters the past few years.  Barber only has four TDs after averaging 12 over the past three seasons.  He hasn’t scored in the last four weeks.  Jacobs only has three after averaging 11 as a starter the past two years.

Sunday Night Football One Liner Steelers at Ravens

Santonio Holmes finally scored his second touchdown of the season, which is his first since Week 1!

Note: Expect a Fred Jackson blog post this week.
