Mr. Monday Morning: Week 13
Vince Bavaro
12/7/09

Boss of the Week: Tony Romo- 392 Yds, 3 TD

We mentioned during the week that Tony Romo and Miles Austin hit up Vegas last weekend after their Thanksgiving win.  With that said, Romo is sure to receive criticism in Dallas after losing to the Giants this week, but fantasy owners surely aren’t complaining.  He put up some sick stats and topped them off with a lovely TD to his Vegas buddy in garbage time.  Austin finished with 10 catches for 104 yards and the touchdown. Cha-ching!

Weakest of the Week: Vincent Jackson- 2 Rec, 54 Yds

Same story as last week.  Antonio Gates hulked up (8 Rec, 167 Yds).  Jackson dulked down.  An optimist would say that it’s a good thing that V. Jax hasn’t scored in four weeks, because he’s due to explode when it matters most.

Themes on display in Week 13 heading into fantasy playoffs

You can’t trust any Buffalo Bills.  When you like one, he soils the bed.  When you’re down on one, he blows up.

Chris Redman does not affect Roddy White’s value much, because Redman is a competent journeyman and White is now a proven NFL No. 1 WR.

Cedric Benson is healthy.  36 carries= Wow.

After being injured and/or slumping for a few weeks, Calvin Johnson has now scored in three straight games and I still think the best is yet to come from the stud this season.

Nate Washington and Kenny Britt are viable options with Vince Young playing so well.  Washington was targeted 10 times Sunday and he dropped a sure 65-yard touchdown.  Britt has scored three weeks in a row.

Knowshon Moreno’s time has come.

On a smaller fantasy scale, so has Jamaal Charles’.

Eddie Royal is garbage this year.  I can’t believe how bad he has been.  Looks like I’ll be losing the over/under 85 receptions bet I have with a buddy.  I picked the over.  Rats.

Sammy Morris’ healthy presence is not good for Laurence Maroney owners.  Maroney is still the hulk to own/start, but he is now a riskier than he was a few weeks back.

Predicting which Saint running back will receive the biggest weekly workload is like playing Russian roulette, but stick with Pierre Thomas.

I love Robert Meachem’s maturity and needless to say, his playmaking ability. He now has nine touchdowns on the season, but none more wild than this.  He was a Fantasy Hulks deep sleeper.

Santonio Holmes, Brandon Jacobs, Antonio Gates, and Jason Witten are heating up at just the right time.

Pickup Jerome Harrison. With Jamal Lewis on IR, Harrison is Cleveland's most talented running back and he faces weak run D's Kansas City and Oakland in Weeks 15 and 16. He scored twice Sunday, both coming on receptions. He has legit talent catching the rock.

Roy Williams has earned WR3/flex status, but if I own both him and Miles Austin on the same fantasy team, Williams still rides the pine of course.

When is Marion Barber going to score?

Vernon Davis is ridiculous.  Alex Smith hit him for his league-leading 10th touchdown on Sunday.

Why did Julius Jones receive 25 touches to Justin Forsett’s eight?  After the way Forsett balled the past few weeks, that is a joke.

Randy Moss (1058 yards) and Wes Welker (1053) rank one and two in the NFL in receiving yards. All I have to say is: Daaaamn!

Extra Tip

Be sure to handcuff your franchise running backs for playoff insurance if you still can.  Example- Rashad Jennings for MJD.  I know Jennings is still available in most leagues.
