Mr. Monday Morning: Week 9
Vince Bavaro
11/12/09

Boss of the Week: Kurt Warner- 261 Yds, 5 TD

After turning the ball over six times last week, Warner hulked up to the tune of five touchdown passes in Arizona’s win at Chicago, which was the first matchup between the teams since Denny Green’s infamous “Crown their ass” meltdown.  Two of Warner’s TDs went to Larry “Legend” Fitzgerald who’s spitting on the Madden curse.  Fitzgerald finished with nine catches for 123 yards.

While were talking about this matchup, Jay Cutler also had a big game- 369 Yds, 3 TD, INT.  All three of his touchdowns went to Greg Olsen, who had his best game of the season by far.  He and Cutler finally had it going on, and Olsen quietly now has six touchdowns on the season.

Weakest of the Week: Marques Colston- 1 Rec, 45 Yds

Colston only had one catch and I saw him drop a few passes, including one in traffic in the end zone.  He remains a righteous hulk though.

RB Hulks

Michael Turner, Chris Johnson, and DeAngelo Williams all put up monster numbers this week:

Turner vs. WAS- 18 Att, 166 Yds, 2 TD, 2 Rec, 14 Yds
Johnson vs. SF- 25 Att, 135 Yds, 2 TD, 3 Rec, 25 Yds
Williams vs. NO- 21 Att, 149 Yds, 2 TD, 2 Rec, 12 Yds

They were fun to watch Sunday, as each hulk busted long runs– Turner 58 yards (TD), Chris Johnson 41, Williams 66 (TD).  Explosive to say the least…  All three of these gentleman are currently living up to their first round status.  Be happy if you have one.

Texans Backfield Report

Ryan Moats started Sunday against Indy and received 19 touches versus Steve Slaton’s nine.  They each finished with a one-yard touchdown.  Slaton’s was a rush TD and Moats’ was a reception.  Slaton is far more talented than Moats but the fumbling issue remains a concern.  It’s worth noting that Moats was the one who lost a fumble this week.  As a Slaton owner in half of my leagues, I am jealous of those who drafted DeAnge Williams and Chris Johnson right about now.  I just pray to the fantasy gods that Slaton gets it together in ‘09.

Dallas Clark is ridiculous

Clark had a career-high 14 receptions for 119 yards Sunday, racking up tough catches for first downs all day long.  With Peyton Manning on fire, Clark is putting up WR numbers, ranking second in the league in receptions (60) and sixth in yards (703).  Unreal.

Ceddy Benny the Bull

I’m still in awe of the way Cedric Benson is running this season.  The workhorse carried 34 times for 117 yards and a touchdown, joining Jerome Bettis as the only players to have 100-plus rushing yards against Baltimore twice in one season (per NFL.com).  Cincinnati won both contests, by the way.

Random Observations/Thoughts

Matt Stafford threw five interceptions, which is not encouraging for Calvin Johnson owners, but at least both guys are healthy.  Hopefully their talent gets them back on track.

Jason Campbell sucks.

In the midst of Kurt Warner’s huge game, the Cardinals running game was effective.  Tim Hightower received 15 carries, Beanie Wells received 13 and both averaged over five yards a carry.  Wells has been growing up in recent weeks.

Ravens Offensive Coordinator Cam Cameron continues to inject his feature back with hulk serum in the reception category.  At the halfway point, Ray Rice has 46 catches, including eight for 87 yards on Sunday.  PPR treasure.

Mike Sims-Walker – aka M.S. Dubs – is a beast!  He continues to be David Garrard’s go-to-guy.  Sims-Walker and Randy Moss had identical stats Sunday- 6 Rec, 147 Yds, TD.  You can either ride M.S. Dubs as long as he’s healthy or try to sell him high for a Greg Jennings-type.  Given Sims-Walker’s injury history, I may try to sell him, but I’d be content keeping him too.

Jamaal Charles didn’t do jack with Larry Johnson out (6 Att, 36 Yds, 3 Rec, 19 Yds).  Keep him on your bench unless he gets more touches.  Kolby Smith also received four carries.  The Chiefs running game is worthless, plus L.J. is eligible to return Week 10.

Laurence Maroney has scored in three straight games.  I regret dropping him earlier this year, but he wasn’t getting opportunities back then.  Now he looks primed to go on a second half run, similar to the one I’ve been referencing from late ’07.

Tom Brady is feelin’ the flow.  Doin the bull dance.  Workin it.

Ronnie Brown has been quiet in recent weeks and is worth trying to pry from an owner w/ short-term memory.

With Brandon Jacobs (knee) and Ahmad Bradshaw (foot) banged up, have a quick trigger finger for Danny Ware on waivers if Earth or Fire ever go down.  By the way, Jacobs only has two touchdowns in nine games.  What’s up with that?

Alex Smith and Vernon Davis have great chemistry this year, something San Fran has been waiting on for a few years.  Davis had 10 catches for 102 yards.

I heart Brent Celek and Miles Austin, two Fantasy Hulks faves.
